Wristbands
Live Strong
Wow.. Do you guys know about the yellow coloured "Live Strong" Wristband sold by Lance Armstrong Foundation to a donation drive for their fight against cancer? I didn't know about tt until fairly recently. It is sold world-wide and you can purchase it in bulk (min. purchase 10) via the
website. The price is abt S$3 (including shipping).
According to the foundation, yellow is a symbol of hope, courage and perseverance. As a tribute to Lance’s inspirational fight against cancer, yellow wristbands engraved with his mantra, Live Strong, are sold in an effort to raise $5,000,000 for the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF).
Well.. I'm buying it through one of the NS guys. He is ordering 10 and he has 4 extras. Thus I asked to buy from him. I must say that my initial impulse to buy it was because it is kinda cool. But after reading more abt it, I find it rather meaningful. It is afterall a donation to the foundation. However, on the personal level, what yellow symbolises and what the band symbolises are what makes me wanna have it.
Stand Up Speak Up
Another wrist band I'm interested in is the "Stand up, Speak up" wristband. It consists of 2 wristbands (one black, one white) interwined together. It is in support of the fight against racism in football. However, it is still not sold world wide yet. You can see it on this
site. Well.. I admit, I like this one mainly because of the design. However, the other sub-reason would be to remind myself not to stereotype against other races. However, I feel that this band is quite meaningless to me as I feel that stereotypes are nurtured. In a sense, as we grow up in the environment we r in, the stereotype would become ingraned into us. Much as we know tt it is wrong and we consciously try not to do it, we will eventually entertain some thoughtsabout it sub-consciously. And when something bad happens, we will point our fingers to the target of racism.
However, I also believe that it is during the time when "something bad happens" whereby the wristband would come into handy as a reminder for us to be fair.
Anyway, for this band, I will only get if it can be easily purchased. Cuz it is produced by Nike and I dun exactly trust a profit-maximising organisation to do things fair.
Other Wristbands
I also know about some other wristbands. Mainly S'pore based.
Standard Chartered "Seeing is Believing" wristband (comes in green or blue colours). Haha.. I think you can purchase it from any Standard Chartered outlets. It symbolises the fight against blindness

Standard Chartered Wristband
There is also the abstainance from pre-marital sex "Worth Waiting For" wristbands. It was sold by Focus on the Family organisation on Valentine's Day. I'm not really concerned with it cuz I'm still single. wahaha.. Plus I already don't believe in it. However, this is subjected to the circumstances.. wahahahahahhaha.. *evil laughter*
Do you guys know of any other wristbands???? Pls let me know. I'm rather interested in them. Thks..
