Am I Materialistic?Read a short portion of the memoir of Eugene O'Kelly (CEO of KPMG) from Sunday Times. Well.. As usual, the morale of the story is that there are so many more things in life than money and career. There are things like family bonding, growth of your child, relationships and so many more, which have nothing to do with monetary success. The purpose is probably to stop you in your mad rush up the corporate ladder and rethink where you should place your priorities on.
Often, I can't help but wonder: These are the 'successful' people in the working world. They deem themselves to be 'unsuccessful' at the end of the day and they advocate that family and spiritual life is in fact the key to 'success' (somewhere along these lines). They have all the money they need and can go for all the wants they may have. This being the case, they can then talk about the other things in life (as mentioned above).
So what happens to us, these young and not-so-rich people? Do we heed their advice or do we do what others do and try to earn as much as we possibly can?
As far as I'm concerned at this point in time, I want to go for the monetary wants. The rest, they come when they come. I'll pick them up along the way and probably regret when the time comes for me to die. haha.. I think I am just pragmatic.....
