Dumb Movie - When A Stranger CallsJust caught this movie. Well.. I say it is dumb because the damsel-in-distress is so stupid that I say she deserves every min of the horror she went through later in the show:
1. Jill arrived at the hoouse as a baby-sitter but she didn't even takethe initiative to takea look at the kids, who were sleeping at that pt in time.... until the stranger-on-the-line "reminded" her to do so.
2. The security alarm went off and the security agency called the house, Jill informed that everything was fine, without even checking the house.
3. Jill's friend came into the house because the garage door was open, and Jill just went to close the door (witha little sense of urgency).
4. A mystery person called Jill at the house, using Jill's friend's (from pt 2) HP. Wouldn't you at least suspect that sth happened to your friend? Oh well.. maybe it is a prank call by your friend..
Anyway, crap aside.. I read today's Straits Times about the rising trend of youths joining Buddhism. One thing I found particularly disturbing was a photo attached to the article. In the photo, a youngster was carrying a poster with the slogan, "We don't meditate to see heaven but to end suffering." I don't know about you but I find it pretty obvious who the slogan is for.
It is disturbing because it is such a blatant display. I understand that religions represent the core beliefs of the followers. Thus a follower of 1 religion does not find it easy to accept and understand the follower of another religion. Now, with youths being more active in the religioous organisations, will their youthful energies be wasted on blatant out-cries against other religions? And if this happens, what will the reactions be?
