What Is Your Ambition?I was conversing with my students yesterday and I asked them the above qn. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they already have something in mind. Most people their age do not know what they want to become in future. I was and am still one of them.
I have never been able to answer questions like "what is your ambition?", "what do you want to study in future?" or "what do you like to study?". The truth is I don't know.
First of all, I do not in particularly like studying. I do not like any particular subject. There is only preference. I prefer to study Math over Geography because Math is easier for me. However, it being easier does not mean that I like it.
Second, work. To me, work is simply an avenue to achieve work satisfaction and of course, income. Work satisfaction can be derived from saving a life, counselling a person, winning a case for your client, attaining a high managerial post in a company or even make a small leap in technology during research. Reality have shown me that it doesn't matter in what form your work satisfaction comes in, it is the bread that it brings in that matters. I have seen people working 10 over years of their lives working as something, only to give up the job later to look for others. The reasons being "don't like the job but needed the money then", "grew sick of it, no prospects"....
I feel that all thise crap about your dreams and ambitions are just part of a major propaganda exercise since the old ages. Firstly, our ancestors worked together to set up the societies and systems. Everybody is given a part to fulfill. There were no demands back then, so people just do their part, get fed and get protected. At this point, the systems are already set up and in process. People start to grow a little bit cleverer and maybe more selfish. They ask, "Why must I do this while he/she does that?" So some smart asses came up with the solution! "Give them choices! Everybody can choose their own professions! You just have to acquire the skills needed for that profession and you can do the job you want!" So everybody chose "what they like" and everybody is happy working.
Later, some people became cleverer and questioned, "Why are those smart asses telling us what to do?" Those smart asses thought of another solution! "You can vote who to govern you! Democracy prevails!" blah blah blah....
haha.. ok... i'm just being pragmatic & crappy at the same time... Sigh.. Suddenly my world is so dark and gloomy.....(Another crap)
